Experimental Philosophy

Xerrada amb Joshua Knobe, catedràtic de Filosofia, Psicologia i Lingüística a la Universitat de Yale.

Experimental philosophy is a new movement that aims to make progress on the traditional questions of philosophy by running systematic experiments, i.e., by using the sort of methods more commonly associated with psychology. I will provide a brief introduction to the basic ideas behind the experimental philosophy movement and then discuss a number of different discoveries that experimental philosophers have made about specific philosophical questions. Barcelona has established itself as one of the leading centers for work in experimental philosophy, and I will be highlighting some important experimental work from philosophers in Barcelona.

Prof Philosophy and Psychology and Linguistics de Yale University Ph.D., 2006, Princeton University Much of my work thus far has been in the field of moral cognition. I examine the ways in which people’s moral judgments can influence their use of concepts that might initially seem entirely scientific or non-moral (intention, causation, happiness, knowledge). I have also worked on a number of questions about people’s ordinary concepts that fall outside the domain of moral cognition strictly speaking, including questions about people’s understanding of free will and of consciousness.
